I had an amazing time with fab mountain views from my spacious room and the serene pool area. The breakfast options could've used more variety. I'd definitely come back!

The views from the terrace are amazing!
The staff members were often grumpy. Despite the hotel's beautiful mountain location, the amenities did not live up to expectations. The pool was ice-cold, a huge letdown since it was one of the main reasons we booked this hotel. The breakfast offerings ran out quickly, and we often encountered limited choices. We expected more attentiveness from the staff, especially given the pricing.

The setting and the view are wonderful,
Easy to reach without a car thanks to the 81 bus from Funchal stopping right outside. The pool area boasts marvelous views, and the jacuzzi was a nice touch after our long hikes. While the staff were friendly, their responsiveness varied.

Very friendly and helpful staff, stunning location, comfortable rooms, restaurant good for dinner...
Spa facilities, sauna in particular, in need of repair. Breakfast not bad but room for improvement. Location at the end of a long, pot-holed, sometimes narrow and winding road not ideal when it comes to traveling around - but this is the price you pay for the isolation and fantastic setting. Occasional bus-loads of tourists visiting the adjacent viewpoint and gift shop. If the weather is going to be bad it will be bad at this altitude - but if this is an issue you would choose to stay in Funchal.

The hotel is luxurious and immaculately clean, has world class views to Valley of the Nuns. The breakfast is good hot, includes plenty of meals. The units are recently refurbished, generous sized. It has service-oriented, attentive staff.

The amazing views surprise us
The hotel sits atop a mountain offering fine scenic views from our room. The enclosed balcony was a perfect spot for morning coffee, while the secluded atmosphere was nice. The staff was friendly, we felt welcomed throughout our time there.
The accessibility to local attractions was a challenge. The winding road to Funchal was daunting, and the breakfast options were below par. We expected more variety, and the dated decor gave the hotel a tired feeling.

Utterly disappointed. Breakfast was mediocre at best, and the coffee was awful, yet the staff flaunted their superior espresso. The pool? A disaster! Opened late and no one bothered to turn on the jacuzzi, i almost thought it was a joke. Surprised i didn't get a complimentary upgrade for the trouble. Thanks for nothing.

This must be one of the most beatifully located hotels in Madeira. The very spaceous and comfortable rooms have balconies with views over the Curral das Freiras valley, which should already be enough reason to spend a night in the Estalagem Eira do Serrado. Good breakfast, and meals served in the restaurant are of high quality and good value for money. The jacuzzi and sauna (free) are very welcome after walking up the Nun's path to reach the hotel from Curral das Freiras. Busses from Funchal also stop in front of the hotel in the morning, and some from Curral in the afternoon. All in all, a great place to spend a few days if you like wonderful views, tranquility, close proximity to the mountains of Madeira and great food.

The food could reach better levels, noticed some tactics used in restaurant kitchens which may be a bit unpleasant if you know them...
